“Orange the World: Generation Equality stands against Rape.”
The celebrations took place on Wednesday September 27th, 2019 in the premises of the PAIDWA- Buea. The rallying force was the project “Improving the protection of women and girls affected by the conflict in the North-West and South West Regions of Cameroon”, implemented with Italy Cooperation support. Celebrating under this year’s theme “Orange the World: Generation Equality stands against Rape”, participants included civil society organizations, representative of traditional rulers and Religious organizations, the different UN Agencies involved with GBV and above all beneficiaries who are survivors of Gender Based Violence.
The incisive, captivating and heavily applauded keynote address for the day was the presentation of the statement of the Executive Director of UN Women concerning the 16 days of activism for 2019, read out in its entirety by the Representative of UN Women Buea. This was followed by the relating of personal field experiences and testimonies from remarkable personalities within the GBV sub cluster and survivors.
The lively and informative panel discussions led by the Representative of UN Women Buea, demonstrated the level of engagement and commitment of the various participants. This was followed by visits to stands and exchanges. The local partner LUKMEF involved in the field implementation of the Italian sponsored project-“Improving the protection of women and girls affected by the conflict in the North-West and South West Regions of Cameroon”, later carried the sensitization to some neighboring educational institutions.
