More than 400 people attended the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence on Women and Girls campaign in the Far North region.
More than 400 people, including local authorities, development partners, civil Society organizations and young people, attended on November 27th, the official launch of the 13th edition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence on Women and Girls campaign in the Far North region, at Women Empowerment Center at Maroua. This campaign, which contributes each year to reducing violence against women through greater involvement of men as partners in a relationship based on mutual respect, trust and commitment, had this year as its main theme "Generation Equality stands up against rape".
In his speech, the Governor's representative higlighted that gender-based violence breaks up families, weakens our social fabric and costs our communities and the economy dearly. It is also the ideal time for us to learn and balance the knowledge necessary to continue to defend the rights of girls and women always and everywhere through advocacy efforts of all partners who are fighting for the respect of women's rights“.
According to the women's network regional president, this year's theme will amplify the voice of the various movements and sectors in the region that are working to prevent and eliminate violence against women. She also advocated with public authorities to significantly improve the situation of women subjected to violence, which will thus bring added value to the country's economic and sociocultural development.
During this period, key activities will be carried out: the exchange visit led by the United Nations system coordinator and women diplomats with victims of violence and women mediators, the Heforshe campaign at universities and private educational institutions, a major media campaign and various other activities by other stakeholders.
